SELECT 500
May 2004 saw the introduction of an all new series of figures to the ProStars range, this range was to be the most exclusive and limited edition series Corinthian had ever produced and, as time would go onto tell, also the most controversial and indeed valuable, the name given to this range is ‘ProStars Select 500.’
A new backing card was designed for this extra special range, with each figure being issued with an individually numbered collector card, from 001 up to 500. Corinthians aim was to produce a very limited range of figures aimed directly at the long term and dedicated collector. As the name suggests, only 500 of each figure were produced worldwide, a number far lower than any other ProStars figure released before or since (not including Platinum Packs)
The figures were never made available for general sale by Corinthian, with different figures being released for the UK and Japanese markets. The UK releases were given away free for money spent with the company on other ProStars products, either at the Corinthian Conventions or via Corinthian Directs online store or mail order service. This was not the case however with the Japanese issued ProStars Select 500 figures, which were distributed in a variety of ways, from redemption tokens to the infamous Lucky Boxes and even a New Years Lucky Bag!
Over a 4 year span Corinthian would release a total of 46 different figures as part of the ProStars select 500 series. The figures are without doubt the rarest ever released, given the low production volume of just 500 pieces each, and have appreciated the most in value over the years and Platinum Packs aside, are amongst the rarest and most sought after figures in the entire ProStars range.
In order to detail these figures in the depth they deserve, I have split the figures up into the collection they were released in.
