STARS OF THE SEASON 2005/6

Corinthian once again released a series which took a retrospective look at the season, with ProStars Series 33 Stars Of The Season 2005/06 containing 12 players who had excelled during the 2005/06 season.

There is nowhere else to start than by mentioning that ProStars Series 33 Stars Of The Season 2005/06 was the very first; and as it would transpire the only, regular ProStars Series to feature Lionel Messi! The 2005/06 saw Messi establish himself as a first team player for Barcelona making 17 La Liga appearances and scoring 6 goals.

 

 

Of the 2 ProStars sculpts Corinthian made of Messi i much prefer this version, with him also being done in Argentina home kit as part of the 2006 Convention Series. Corinthian made 4,302 blisters of Messi which was the highest of any in ProStars Series 33 Stars Of The Season 2005/06, however the blister is a collectors item and always in demand.

 

 

The 2005/06 Premier League was won by Chelsea, their Argentine forward Hernan Crespo scored 10 times in 30 appearances for the blues, with Corinthian making 2,309 blisters. Manchester United had to settle for second place, fans could be consoled by this all new sculpt of Wayne Rooney, who had his best season to date scoring 16 times in 36 league games, with Corinthian making 2,310 blisters.

 

 

Thierry Henry ended the 2005/06 season as top scorer with 27 goals in just 32 games, an incredible record, with Corinthian producing an all new sculpt which would also be released in France home kit as part of the 2006 Convention Series, with Corinthian making 2,317 blisters.

 

 

Pepe Reina excelled for Liverpool, conceding just 25 league goals all season, which was the 2nd best in the league bettered only be champions Chelsea. This was Pepe Reina's first season in the Premier League following his move from Villareal, so it was no surprise to see Corinthian sculpt him, with there being 2,498 blisters made.

 

 

The remaining 3 players from the English Premier League were all first time sculpts and none of them would be released again. For Bolton Wanderers we have the superb sculpt of Kevin Nolan, with there being only 1,408 blisters. We have Egyptian forward Hossam Ahmed Mido for Tottenham Hotspur, with there being just 1,349 blisters, and for Blackburn Rovers we have Morten Gamst Pedersen, with there being just 1,144 blisters which is the 2nd lowest in the series.

 

 

We travel over to Italy as we have 4 players released from Serie A, the most high profile being that of Kaka in AC Milan home kit with his blister volume being the 2nd highest in this series with 3,032.

 

 

Luca Toni had the season of his life for Fiorentina, netting 31 times and appeared in all 38 league games, this form earned him a spot in the Italy 2006 World Cup squad. This was actually the second release of Toni, his first was in Fiorentina away kit as part of the 2006 Japan Collector Club Members set, with this home kit version being his first and only blister release, with Corinthian making 2,312 blisters.

 

 

Mauro Camoranesi was re sculpted and released in the home kit of Juventus, his first ProStars appearance was in the Juventus Serie A Champions 2004/05 team pack, however that was a different sculpt. Volume wise Corinthian made 2,252 blisters of Camoranesi.

 

 

The lowest blister volume in ProStars Series 33 Stars Of The Season 2005/06 goes to Marco Amelia for Livorno and is form during the season would earn him a place in the Italy 2006 World Cup squad. Corinthian made just 1,142 blisters of Amelia.

 

 

In total Corinthian made 26,375 for ProStars Series 33 Stars Of The Season 2005/06 , which was lower than Series 32 and almost 4 times less than Series 21 which had over 100,000 blisters released. The average blister production for this series was just 2,197.

 

 

Corinthian produced 2 special redemption figures for ProStars Series 33 Stars Of The Season 2005/06, which are Hernan Crespo for Chelsea and Mauro Camoranesi for Juventus, both in their respective club away kits. Collectors were able to directly purchase the redemption figures, which were priced at £5 and came in clear sachet with a non numbered collector card.

 

 

Series 32 was released at the 2006 Corinthian Convention which took place at Villa Park on the 17th July, with blisters priced at £3 each and Corinthian also made the series available in a case assortment, which contained all 12 blisters and 1 platinum pack, with the case assortment costing £36.

 

 

Along with the regular blister packs, Corinthian produced something special called the Platinum Pack, these were produced in much lower numbers and not available for direct sale, they were given away free for money spent with Corinthian Direct. The figures are identical to those in the standard blister but are on a Silver base and assigned a PP (Platinum Pack) collector code, which was the same code as the PRO version, with the figure then placed on a specially designed Platinum Pack blister card, coming with an individually numbered collector card with just 360 of each being produced.
